My Bobrisky post that went viral

Last week,

I posted a business case study on my Instagram page about the controversial skincare dude, Bobrisky.

And man, did I get into trouble!

LOL

I pretty much went as close to "breaking the internet" as I've ever been before.

My post got shared on so many handles, blogs like Bella Naija and it generated so much controversy and conversation (that as as this morning, I'm up to 401 comments). I got insulted, had my faith questioned, accused of being Bobrisky's bae and a lot more.

It's a good thing I have a thick skin.

Here's what I shared (and I'd love your comments too)

You've gotta hand it to him, I admire Bobrisky business acumen .

Yeah, I do. .

Why? Cause he's not afraid to be his AUTHENTIC SELF & OWN HIS SHIT. .

Bob has a story of being insecure, ugly, sad and broke (which creates an EMOTIONAL CONNECTION you can relate to)

Today, he's in the skincare business.

What does he sell?

If you said cream, then you're wrong.❌

He sells TRANSFORMATION & LIFESTYLE

Bob recognizes that people buy the OUTCOME (the desired lifestyle of being noticed), not the VEHICLE (cream)

Bob knows his customers want attention that comes through glowing skin

So he CREATES that ATTENTION because he knows if he doesn't have it, he can't sell it. 

Bob gets noticed, so he can help you get noticed

Are you the epitome of what you sell?

Bob knows that a brand is a SUMMARY OF CONVERSATIONS people are having about you. .

No attention = no conversation = No brand.

He's chosen a brand that people LOVE TO HATE and DOESN'T APOLOGIZE FOR IT

So when you talk about Bob, his bae or butt lift, it STIMULATES CONVERSATION and lifts (no pun intended) his brand. .

You're there being "HUMBLE", afraid to ruffle feathers because you can't own your shit and you care what people will think about you

You're not broke enough, that's why!

  • sir.orah: Thanks so much for this sir, I actually didn't see this post at first (Instagram algorithms smh) until you posted the stats more recently. I appreciate the way you used a case study like this to drive home a point. My take away? Do all that is necessary to move your brand and own it. One more thing, some people don't get it though. Sir, it takes intelligence to read between the lines, if someone becomes shallow-minded then its his/her business (pun totally unintended lol).

 

  • Mr steve, if indeed youre truly as gifted a strategist and businessman as you obviously are implying, then you would have researched your case study first before tagging your post "Be like bob" Thats a man-whore who legit sleeps around with married men for money, facts only! His cream business doesn't amount to shit as none of the dividends of the glamorous lifestyle he flaunts is from profits of the so called cream business. He doesn't make noteworthy money from it, Bobrisky is a male prostitute.

 

  • rogbathebaron: @iamsteveharris the part that hit the hardest and i think a lot of ppl need to get is "you're not broke enough that's why". A lot of people have no idea what it means to hit rock bottom. They are still 'comfortably broke'.... well off enough to bother about the opinions of other people. When you're hungry, you don't try to pick between cake, bread or croissant.....you just want food. Nuff said!!

If yes where does conduct come in here Bob has no conduct a believer can emulate is he saved obviously no does he have the fear of God NO 1timothy4v12. A man in christ must never forget who he is because of business money fame etc all this are vanity there is something more eternal the love of christ to us, even if Bob has all the marketing strategy he can not be an example to the youth a man should not live a life without the fear of God before you pick an example sir you need to look at the person's life in full not just a part because whether it is the business aspect you are talking about or not the youth of today will emulate everything this is very wrong sir very very wrong you are misleading the youth sir and you need to take heed sir, A believer has has the spirit of God has light in me he has all the strategy within him he has directions we don't need to follow a man that lives a life that glorifies the devil before we can be successful in business sir it is not about excellency of speech or sweet words it is about the power of God, you should repent sir for many can be misguided with this!!

If you are educated, and if you're a business minded person. You will get this... The point here is, He's not talking about the cream. Bobrisky may even be selling a fake cream ( just saying). He may even be selling the wrong cream that he's not using. But the message here is.... He was able to captured people's attentions. He was able to be on the limelights. Look at his old picture. Imagine him selling cream with that look. Nobody will go closer to him. Now look at it this way. He maybe buying or using another cream different from what he's selling, but the point of view here is. He was able to call the attention of his fans, followers and throw his style he got more popular and was making money through his style and ways of fashion. He's a business minded person with his creativity. He's doing all this because he wants money. He knows what he's doing. Y'all get the message and ignore the message.... @iamsteveharris God bless you sir. People will judge and condemn everything instead of asking questions about things they don't know.

 

  • ndidiazaah: Interestingly thought provoking..... no point going into an argument of wits. I understand the principle and the message. And that's what's guarandanmteed to make a business succeed in an ​over saturated business environment like ours. Greatness doesn't come from convenience and trying to please everyone. Not even from the business models thought in school. It comes from being disruptive, changing to the unpredictable. Even God had to do something out of the ordinary to get our attention.   • gbemialeke: Insightful read pointing out how a man created fame and money using unconventional tactics. Brands should learn to speak above the clutter in a meaningful way to their audience (s). On the other hand though, controversy sells with negative or positive consequences. Global brands however, with the benefit of foresight and hindsight know when controversy isn't worth the association and that's why they drop endorsements in the face of values they don't want to be associated with.
