What's Your Compelling Reason?

Some weeks ago, I was preparing to run a coaching session with a particular client in the Oil & Gas industry and in developing my content, I stumbled on a picture that captured the essence of what I want to share today).

Looking at this picture, it seems pretty obvious; a guy doing his best to get away from the cops.

He’s determined to get away, but they look pretty determined to catch him.

But here’s the question.

Who has the greater compelling reason for running?

It’s like the age old question; which came first? The chicken or the egg?

Who has the more compelling reason to run?

Is it the cops, determined to catch this perpetrator and finally put him behind bars where he belongs?

Or is it the felon, the underdog (no pun intended) who knows that if he gets caught, he’s looking at a 3 to 5 stay in a maximum security penitentiary, rent free?

Who’s got the greater compelling reason?

To capture or to escape?

Both folks are running, but for different reasons.

I don’t know what you think, but I figure that in order to succeed in life, you’ve gotta be running towards something or running from something.

{{first_name}} why are you running?

Are you running away from poverty or running towards wealth?

Running away from being overwhelmed by having more bills than money or by running towards financial fitness?

Running away from living a life of mediocrity & being unfulfilled in that dead end job or chasing your greatness in what God pre-determined for you to do?

Why do you get up in the morning?

What’s your compelling reason?

What's chasing you? (paying children's school fees LOL)

Your compelling reason is not a “nice to do”, it’s a “must do”.

Your compelling reason is your “why”

Take a look at that picture again.

Do you think getting away from the cops is a “nice to do” for this dude? Of course not!

He knows the consequences of not getting away.

Your compelling reason is determined by the consequence of not achieving it.

The consequence for this dude not getting away is being locked up in the "pen".

The consequence of the cops not catching him is the likelihood of another crime being committed another day by the same guy.

What are the consequences of you not achieving your goals?

What are the consequences of not losing weight?

What are the consequences of not giving your best to that job / career or business?

What are the consequences of not having a financial plan?

Your dreams and goals have got to be so compelling that they get you running!

If your goals don’t get you up and running, then they’re not compelling enough or what's chasing you has no consequences.

Today, think of your compelling reasons and their consequences.

Start running.
